I woke up to taylor's present to me: he's now at the age to mark his territory. rock on!!!
I read this commentary in the Oregon Daily Emerald (campus newspaper) by Ailee Slater (anyone want to send me the actual link? I searched and can't find it) about how "Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, the third-ranking Republican in our nation's senate, is pushing the envelope of privacy and basic rights in his opposition to contraception. Santorum is not just talkign about abortion pills, he's talking about birth control pills. According to a recent Newsweek article, Santorum believes that each state should have the right to regulate contraception as it sees fit, meaning that Santorum would support, for instance, Oregon if it decided to ban the sale and use of any contraceptive (including condoms)." It goes on to talk about how he is against the pill AND condoms. WTF? continuing...
"The Justice Department recently published new guidelines for treating rape victims, which include no reference to emergency contraception as a method of preventing pregnancy. Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union have already spoken out against this prominent omission; still, it is frightening to realize that it is the radicals rather than leaders of our country who are coming to the aid of women recovering from rape."
and then goes on to mention Bush's abstinence-only campaign.
Holy fuck this enraged me to no end. These are the fucking closed minded conservatives that are going to put laws on my body? That, to keep population in check, I will have to resort to only having sex to reproduce? Not like we tell dolphins, our fuck-for-pleasure friends that they can't have sex when they want. Furthermore, I really think it's ridiculous that what I can and can't do with my body and my life is in the hands of old men who would probably sexually assault me if they had the chance to begin with. fucking ew.
what do you guys think?
furthermore, WTF is up with this tsunami relief bullshit? Dude, it was a natural disaster. They've happened before and they WILL happen again. It's population control. Just like earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, everything. What would happen if nothing bad ever happened? It's not like the earth is exploding. Seriously, it's population control. It's not anything new, why are we so fucking hung up on tsunami relief?
I think a major point of it is that they are poor and overpopulated. But, then again, they didn't survive it because they didn't have the technologies to forsee it. And I think it's different here, because we aren't a third world country. It's like survival of the fittest, you know? Like, we as a leading technological society could forsee it...but did we tell them? no. That's the shitty part on our (as the US) part, but they couldn't. Sorry. Just an anthropological view. We're overpopulated as it is.
